Strong and healthy teeth are so important when it comes to overall oral health. The stronger the teeth, the better they will serve you, and the less prone they will be to breakage, cavities, or other common dental troubles. One effective way to help your teeth be as strong as possible is with an in-office fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a mineral that works to prevent tooth decay, and is something we can treat your teeth with during your general dental exam. This in-office solution is powerful, pain-free, and quick. It penetrates the tooth enamel, strengthening from the outside in. Here’s a bit more to know about fluoride and why it is part of a healthy smile.
How Often Will You Apply A Fluoride Treatment To My Teeth?
We will generally apply a fluoride treatment twice yearly, especially for children. When you are in the office for your general dental checkup, we will see if you are due for a fluoride treatment and provide you with a treatment if needed. Otherwise, remember to select toothpastes, oral rinses, mouthwashes, gels, etc. that contain fluoride. You can benefit from its strengthening properties all the time. If you have questions about any product, please ask us before using, just to be on the safe side. We can recommend safe fluoride enhanced products for you as well.
Is It Safe For My Teeth?
Yes, fluoride has been proven not only safe, but effective. As long as you are provided the recommended amount, your teeth will benefit from its properties. That said, too much fluoride can cause white spots on the teeth known as fluorosis, so don’t overdo it.
How Will Fluoride Protect My Teeth And What Can It Do?
-Protects the chewing surfaces (back teeth especially)
-Protects the roots which may be sensitive
-Repair due to inadequate past oral hygiene
-Protects from tooth decay and other damage
-Aids in saliva production for dry mouth due to medical issues or specific meds
